Located in the Golaghat and Nagaon districts of the state of Assam, the Kaziranga National Park, with its vast lands and the right kind of vegetation is home to several species of mammals, reptiles and birds. 15 of the 35 mammalian species that reside in the park are listed as endangered species. The park boasts having the world's largest population of the one-horned rhinoceros, the Asiatic water buffalo, and eastern swamp deer. Kaziranga accounts for 57 percent of the population of the wild water buffalo, making it the home of the largest number of these animals anywhere in the world. While visiting Kaziranga National Park, look out for the gaur, sambar, wild boar, deer, tigers, leopards, jungle mongooses, bears, pangolins, langurs, and gibbons.
